Chapter One
Laura ran on to the Blackstone Station where the train for Blackstone Private School was waiting for all the students. She was usually the first one there each year but during the summer her parents were transferred closer to Caktrey’s Laboratory which was twenty blocks from the Train Station. She reached in her jacket and swore under her breath; she had forgotten her cell which was lying on the kitchen table.
“Great now I can’t call the train station and tell them I’ll be a little late!” Laura said angrily as she pushed a snow white strand of hair from her bright blue eyes. She wasn’t one to be late for anything including the train to school. Why didn’t my alarm go off! Laura thought as she forced herself to run ever faster. Both her parents were famous scientists on Caktrey so she was quite popular in school and everyone believes she’ll follow in their footsteps and become a scientist like them. Suddenly she heard the sound of the Blackstone Train leaving and stopped, with tears in running down her cheeks she turned around and headed back home. She was too late and now she had to wait until her parents came home so they could enroll her to a public school, for once the train left for Blackstone Private School it wouldn’t return until around New Years day which was five months from now.
It was dark by the time Laura’s parents came home. Laura’s father was the first to notice that she was home and not at Blackstone Private School.
“Laura, why aren’t you at school?” He asked as she entered the hallway.
“I was late to the train, and I had forgotten my cell to call them at the station telling them I’ll be late,” Laura said looking down. Both her parents looked at each other before telling her to get some sleep. As soon as she closed the door to her room her mother looked at her father.
“Wolf what are we going to do? She’s never been late for anything not even for school,” her mother said worried.
“We’ll enroll her at a school on earth. One around my brother’s place, they stopped looking for us long ago Sarah,” Wolf added seeing Sarah open her mouth to argue. She closed her mouth and nodded as she looked at the miniature replica of Earth.
Two weeks later…
Laura walked down the ramp from the ship to see her uncle waving at her. She sighed and headed over to her uncle, she noticed he dyed his hair a darker brown. As she approached her uncle she looked all around at her new surroundings. It was almost the same as back home but only a little different.
“Hey Snowy, welcome to Planet Earth,” Her uncle said smiling.
“Hey Uncle Alex,” Laura said smiling a bit. Snowy was her uncle’s special nickname for her.
“Come on I have to get you to Kaz Academy so you can start school,” Alex said as he helped Laura put her bags in the back of the truck.
“Kaz Academy?” Laura asked as she got into the navy blue truck.
“Kaz is the best Academy in New England especially for Equestrians,” Alex explained as he started up the truck, “You’ll love it there, trust me.”
“Whatever Uncle,” Laura replied looking out the window.
Alex and Laura made it to Kaz Academy and unloaded Halt, a two year old Palomino horse. Laura was scared as her uncle made her take Halt to the stables so he could park the truck. She took the reins and walked towards the stables, she looked back at Halt, who was sniffing her hair, and noticed a strange mark on his forehead. It was shaped like a snowflake and was white with faint silver lines coursing through it.
“How strange, let me guess you were experimented on,” Laura whispered quietly as she hesitantly touched the mark oh Halt’s forehead. Touching the strange mark was a big mistake for she soon felt her arms burn like they were on fire. She pulled back her hand and crossed her arms as the burning sensation faded away.
“Are you Laura Castlewood?” a male voice asked behind her. She turned around to be face to face with a tall male with black hair and dark green eyes.
“Yes I am, and you are?” Laura asked tightening her grip on Halt’s reins.
“I’m Mr. Bearn, you riding instructor,” the male replied.
“Oh okay, um Mr. Bearn can you point me the way to the stables?” Laura asked realizing she was lost.
“Follow me,” he replied laughing.
Alex found Laura outside the stables waiting for him. She was watching some kids ride their horses through a jumping course. Horse riding, I don’t even know how to ride horses and yet my father signs me up for it. Laura thought sadly. As she started to remember her Spunky named Winter. Spunky looked like big Skunks around the same size as horses but without the smell and they had a flat tail like a platypus.
“I see your inspecting the art of Horse Show Jumping,” Alex said smiling.
“What’s the whole point to this anyway? It doesn’t look as fun as riding Spunkies,” Laura said with no hint of emotions in her voice.
“Come on, let’s get you to your dorm where you can unpack your things,” Alex said shaking his head. It’ll take some time for Laura to adjust to Earth alright. Alex thought looking up at the sky.
They entered the Girls Dormitories and headed to the third floor to room 320 where Laura was staying along with a girl named Emma. The room had a clear view of the horse stables and the pastures; in fact one whole wall was nothing but window. In a corner they had cupboards for snacks and a table to do homework on, on one side of the room was full of her trunks and the other side was full of Emma’s stuff. The walls on her side was full of pictures of horses and ribbons, a shelf was lined with trophies too. Before her uncle left he gave her a large box wrapped gift which she unwrapped to find eight books on horses and Horse shows.
“You’ll need to read up on them if you’re going to try out for the intermediate or the advance team,” Alex had said looking at his wrist watch, “I have to go now Laura, but I’m sure your parents will call you before tomorrow.”
“Yeah right, they’re so busy with their experiments that they don’t have time for me, they didn’t even come with me to Earth!” Laura said angrily. Alex shook his head and left, he didn’t have time to argue with his niece. As he left Laura got to work on putting things away, she put her all her clothes in her dresser except for one dress. The dress was white with the sleeves bellowing out at the ends and the dress went down to just above her knees. She had made it with the help of her mother for one of the school dances back home; she hung the dress up in the closet and went back to unpacking. She put a picture of her and her best friend, Zachary on the nightstand beside her bed.
“Is that your boyfriend?” a girl’s voice asked behind her. Laura turned to see a girl around her age standing a few feet from her.
“No, he’s my best friend Zachary. Are you Emma?” Laura asked returning to unpacking.
“Yes I am, and you’re Laura Castlewood. Alexander Castlewood’s niece,” Emma said looking around the room, “Ah drat he left didn’t he?”
“Who? My Uncle? Yeah he had to go,” Laura said as she finished putting her books away. She went back to one of her trunks to find a picture of her parents and Winter in it; she quietly slipped the picture into the nightstand drawer without Emma watching.
“Are you hungry, Laura?” Emma asked looking at the time.
“Kind of, why?”
“They stop serving dinner at seven thirty in the cafeteria, and its six fifty five right now,” Emma explained heading towards the door, “Coming?” Laura nodded and followed her to the cafeteria.
