The Rules
In role-playing, it is very, very, very important for everyone to follow the rules, in order to maximize fun, creativity, and fairness. Please read these rules and adhere to them accordingly; any infraction will result in a corresponding punishment.
Disclaimer: As RPG creator and Moderator, as well as site Admin, Starry Dancer, Esquire, retains the right to request A) changes in one’s spelling, grammar, syntax, etc.; B) alterations to Characterizations, either of Original characters (OCs) and Canon (or In-Universe) characters (CCs); and C) Enforce the rules mentioned hereto. She will also fact-check ad nauseum. [/i]
1. The first rule of this RPG is to, at all times, use proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and syntax. It isn’t too hard to do; use a word processor (like Microsoft word, or anything you would type a paper for school on) to write up your RPG posts, and it’ll take care of a lot of this for you! I want to be able to read what you’re writing, as I’m sure the rest of your fellow RP’ers want to. If your posts look like:
“she ran up 2 the hose nd nocked on the big br0wn dor. a lady ansered it n said what do u want…”
Then no one will know what you mean without some careful and tedious deciphering! Besides that, one of the main goals of this RPG is to foster GOOD writing, which entails legibility and a wee bit of efficacy. You’ll get out of this RPG what you put into it!
2. The second rule is to, of course, treat all other members with respect. You should be doing this anyway, but we might as well restate the Golden Rule because it is VERY important!
Treating other players with respect means that you allow all writers and their characters to be a part of the story. If there is a disagreement between two members, be sure to settle it politely in PMs or a thread in the RPG forum. You don’t hog a plotline, or try to make your character the most beautiful/smart/valuable/what-have-you. You also don’t “god-mode,” which means that you cannot control everyone’s character. Basically, be fair!
3. All posts must be a minimum of 150 words long. This is so we don’t turn the RPG into an MPS; when you post something, you have to mean it! Put in some description, inner thoughts, or, I dunno, a flashback. Word counters are readily available on word processors, but eventually you will get to the point where you know how long is long enough. Feel free to write well beyond the 150-word limit. Examples? Okay!
Example of what NOT to do: “I went down to the stable and saw Jill.‘Hi Jill’ I said.”
Make it better by saying… … “I skipped down to the stable, grinning at the morning sun and humming a happy tune. Bursting through the doors, I saw Jill, one of my best friends, perched atop a hay bale. She was slicing a luscious-looking red apple into slices to give to the horses. I wondered which horse she would want to ride today- I knew that I had been hoping to get to ride Rascal for weeks! I waved enthusiastically to my friend and popped up beside her. ‘Hi, Jill! How’s life?’ I asked, swinging my riding booted feet to and fro.” While I waited for her answer, I scanned the line of glossy backs and picked out Rascal’s bright sorrel coat. I could hardly contain my bubbling enthusiasm, but I kept it at bay and instead tried to snitch an apple slice from the pile Jill had made. Knowing her, she would bat my hand away- but maybe not. Jill was sometimes patient enough to put up with my crazy antics.”
That way, you move the story forward and include the other characters, as well as add depth to the story. Try to stay true to other people’s characters, but still include them in your posts!
4. NO PROFANITY whatsoever; no mature themes, graphic violence, or anything you wouldn’t want your sweet, little, old granny or perhaps a young child to read. This is an RPG friendly to all ages and tastes.
5. If the above rules are not followed, punishment will be doled out by yours truly.
a. The first two offenses will be punished by a reprimand from me.
b. The third offense will be punished with a stern lecture.
c. The fourth offense will be punished by temporary banishment from the RPG.
d. Any repeated offenses HAD BETTER NOT HAPPEN; if they do, a letter of apology, or having to type “I will not use chatspeak” 200 times may be put in place.
6. Please try to be creative and stick to the plot, story, and universe. This means that one cannot bring in characters, objects, names, facts, etc., from other fandoms (which means no Twilight or Harry Potter characters popping up in North of North!). Also, try to stretch your boundaries in creativity; this is all about growth as a storyteller!
On a related note, when it comes to things in the Bella Sara universe, please stay fairly true to their original incarnation. Which means: Ivenna cannot suddenly turn nice. Sara cannot suddenly give all of her power to an Original Character. Thunder cannot suddenly fall madly in love (unless seriously wooed…). You get the picture! If you’re wondering about something, either research it or ask me- I pride myself in knowing a bit about North of North!
7. Most importantly, have FUN! The password to the rules board is the name of the stream that runs through Rolandsgaard: “frothwash.” Besides making us all splendid, creative writers, the only real reason to RP is because it is uproariously entertaining. With that said, get to writin’!
Love, Starry
